Music
The aim of the Music curriculum in KS4 is to continue to foster an appreciation of music, building upon the foundational skills learned in KS3. Currently, Rooks Heath offers the Pearson Edexcel BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Music. Given the inclusive ‘music for all’ ethos of the department, this course best fits the needs of our learners as the content and assessments are predominantly coursework based, with an emphasis on practical skill development. The curriculum is sequenced in a manner to enable students to build upon knowledge and skills which are introduced in each unit, as well as maximising the time allocated for students to develop their performance-based skills to the highest possible standard.
Alongside development of practical skills in performance and composition, careers are explicitly taught through the curriculum and all assessment tasks are designed around ‘industry driven’ briefs. The skills and knowledge acquired through the completion of the BTEC First Award in Music will prepare students not only for further study at KS5 but also for future careers in the Music Industry.
