In Year 7 music there is heaps of fun to be had whilst learning every step of the way. Students will develop their singing, keyboard and guitar skills, as well as learning the basics of musical literacy. There are three core units in Year 7: Music Theatre, World Music and The Music Industry. 

Music Theatre 

When learning about musical theatre students get the opportunity to learn how to play songs on the keyboard and sing songs from well known musical shows. They learn about how a musical goes from a concept in a composer’s mind to playing every night on a West End stage. What are musical partnerships? How can they help to create a masterpiece?

World Music

We believe it is important that students also learn about music from other cultures and our ‘World Music’ unit delves into a different mystery country each week. We learn about the musical traditions and cultures from many countries across the world, and use our listening skills to help hear the difference between music that comes from different places. By the end of this unit they will have produced their own African Drumming piece of music, as well as learning to play and sing Reggae songs on the guitars.

The Music Industry

When learning about the music industry, students will uncover all of the many different roles involved in creating and producing music. They will learn about recording studios, how to write reviews of songs and albums, design their own music festival and begin to learn the basics of songwriting. Students are invited to take on roles such as ‘producer’, ‘artists’ and ‘journalists’. Students continue to develop their keyboard and guitar skills while they work on creating their own lyrics to their very own song.
