Geography is the study of places and people. It is about how people interact with their environments. Students follow the AQA GCSE Geography course (8035). This course highlights the critical importance of Geography for understanding the world. It will stimulate an interest in places and inspire students to become global citizens by exploring their place in the world, and their values and responsibilities to other people and the environment. The content focuses on current issues. The main focus is an understanding of physical processes and factors that produce diverse and dynamic landscapes that change over time. This includes the interaction between people and the environment as well as an understanding of the need for sustainable management of both physical and human environments.

Students will learn to appreciate the differences and similarities between people, places and cultures leading to an improved understanding of societies and economies. Students will have the opportunity to understand more about the world, the challenges it faces and their place within it. We aim to deepen their understanding of geographical processes, illuminate the impact of change and of complex people-environment interactions and develop students’ competence in using a wide range of geographical investigative skills and approaches. 

Geography is a 'robust' subject and having a Geography qualification means that a student has developed a wide range of skills. There is a range of careers which make use of Geography (e.g. town planner, meteorologist, researcher, teacher). Students will develop a range of transferable skills, such as problem solving, decision making, ICT, working with others, analysing data and communication. These skills are in demand and are recognised by employers and universities as being of great value. They will also be useful to students when studying other subjects.
