Personal Development
Personal Development (PD) focuses on extending and building on existing knowledge from KS3 to further consolidate skills so that students are well prepared for the next stage of their education, employment and adult life. Students will grow their own produce, thereby promoting self-confidence from achieving their goals and enjoying the food they have grown. A first aid refresher course will also provide students with an opportunity to practise and update their skills. Current affairs will be explored and discussed, encouraging students to think critically, communicate effectively and make informed decisions. Students will be allocated time for homework, encouraging self-management by organising tasks and being independent whilst improving performance in other subjects.
A flexible approach is the essence of this course. Activities can be modified, take place in a variety of settings and adapted to the needs of each group so that students are able to accomplish personal goals. Research shows that students who are being catered for through personalised learning are far more likely to be engaged, motivated and make progress. PD enables us to engage students by tailoring the course to meet their needs. In turn, students will be able to utilise skills which increases self-confidence, enhance employability prospects and allow them to make positive and effective life choices and decisions for the future.
